Pikachu cosplay: Ears and Tail by Avi-Ayuni Pikachu cosplay: Ears and Tail by Avi-Ayuni
Well, for WAi-Con this year, I'm cosplaying Pikachu Gijinka as part of a Super Smash Brothers Brawl group. This is what I've done so far, because they're the main parts of recognising the cute little pokemon.

*EDIT* This is the end result [link]

The beanie was the hardest to do for me, especially sewing in the ears. Tutorial from :iconclearkid:
As you can see the tail is not quite finished as I have to attach it to my shorts that I'll be wearing.
EDIT The way I attached the tail is by using wiring inside of the tail to keep the shape and stiff. I then, attached the tail onto an old waist-belt, looping some extra wiring coming out of the tail onto the belt then sewing the loose fabric of the tail on. The I simply put the tail on like any other belt. However since I made the tail extremely big for my short to hold, it droops down a little. So make sure you resize the tail compared to your body and don't make it too heavy! =)

This is the first cosplay I've made without any help (coz I am really bad at measuring things) so I'm happy so far.

I used fur(can't remember the exact name), though it is quite soft and limp so the ears flopped, if you want to have ears standing, you'll need to use wire of some sort

When you sewed on the ears, did you just slip them through the sides of the beanie and sew straight across?

yup, left an opening big enough to fit the ears and just sew through. although, if you want the ears to stand, i recommend you use wiring to hold them up. I haven't done that on mine but there should be tutorials around deviantart for it =)

i used templates found on DA (just type tutorials) for these. With the tail, i've used wires to attach it to a belt.

Its been over a year since I wore this cosplay, so i can't exactly remember the process of making this, sorry. It was a quick make.

the place where i got it from just labelled it 'Fur - Gold'. But it is pretty much a fur type material and its very soft and smooth when you stroke it

Normally, fleece is the better material to make a beanie. But I used fur for this one =)

i gots a question... my friend and i are thinking of being pikachu and raichu for halloween, and we're probly going to just wear them whenever too after that. :]
so i was wondering how you attached the tail to the shorts, we were thinking of belts... but idk how that would end up. and you have experience with it. :]

I added wiring that loops outwards from the tail so you can slip a belt through the loops. Make sure to make tight and secure so it won't slip out. It did however pull the back of my shorts out a little, but that's only beacuse my tail was rather heavy with stuffing - but it stayed in place.

ooh really good!
May I ask how you're going to attach the tail? Because I'm making a pikachu costume just like this for Halloween, but I have no clue how I'm going to attach it!
Thanks!

I added wiring that loops outwards from the tail so it can be attached to a belt on the shorts I wore it with. I'm afraid I don't have a full picture of the outfit to show you, sorry. ^^;

For the beanie I used a pattern tutorial made by :iconclearkid: [link] but I added in the ears.

The tail I just traced the shape and cut out two pieces to sew together =)
